Then the news came that really pissed on my chips Koch Media had made a deal with Epic to release the game exclusively on their store. Luckily I’m quite disorganised and hadn’t booked hotels or trains, so I just put it down to experience. In any business, there is always a pecking order and this kind of thing is to be expected. Firstly a week before the event I got bumped from the list, I suspect a few high profile websites wanted to attend and so the little guys got the boot. Then in the space of a few weeks, it all went to shit. I had been invited down to London to attend a press event and even speak to Dmitry himself, an exciting opportunity for a small site like mine. At the start of 2019, the game that was dead in my sights was Metro Exodus, the third game based on the books by author Dmitry Glukhovsky. Post-apocalyptic settings need to have traits that make them stand out in a genre filled with generic wastelands and zombies. Evil robots are hardly a new concept, but Atomic Heart fills its roster with genuinely creepy enemies that stick in the mind long after they are encountered. Although the story takes a while to get going, the world itself is interesting from the start. Mundfish knocked the visuals out of the park, producing one of the better-looking games on the market. That said, the game also has plenty of positives. Before long, the protagonist acquires a special glove that grants him access to a slew of abilities that can be upgraded.Ītomic Heart has its share of issues: the English voice acting and dialogue are not great, the gunplay can be sluggish, and the campaign overstays its welcome.
